  • Did You Know That Each Team Is Allocated Fuel On A Per Lap Basis During The 24 Hours Of Le Mans?

    Pepper Girl
    14 Apr 2014 | 1:23 pm
That's right, each team is allocated a certain amount of fuel, petrol or diesel for each lap covered. There is a slight margin for error and drivers can make up mistakes made during one lap in the next two laps (basically giving them a three lap window to stay within their allotted fuel amount). If they are unable to stay within their allocated amount (corrected or otherwise) then they are penalized with a stop and go or drive-through penalty. This 4th video (in 12 video series) from the Automobile Club de l’Ouest explains how the fuel itself is playing a part in helping teams to reach a…

What do you do if you're a hot-rod fan that wants to stick out from the crowd? If you've ever been to a street-rod show, you'll know that many of the cars on display use the same visual cues, they all use Chevrolet small-block V8s stuffed into fiberglass recreations of 1932 Ford "three window" bodies. It's all a bit homogenized, a bit boring, to be frank. This little drop-top Ford does things differently. Using a proper Porsche 928 V8 overhead cam engine, this hot rod makes a rumble that is distinctly German sounding. While the body is still that instantly familiar Ford roadster shape, the…

Filed under: Spy Photos, Coupe, Performance, Porsche Porsche typically keeps to a suitably fast schedule when it comes to rolling out increasingly hard-core performance versions of the 911. After the 997 Carrera debuted in 2004, the GT3 version followed in 2006, and by the end of the 2007, Porsche had rolled out both the GT3 RS and GT2 versions. Then the facelifted 997.5 came out in 2008 and it was back to the start: the GT3 came in 2009, the GT3 RS and GT2 RS in 2010, and the GT3 RS 4.0 in 2011. But things have slowed down some with the latest 991 generation. The new Carrera came in 2011 and…

I've concluded that only a German automaker - Porsche, to be more specific - would go through the trouble of engineering a roof system that essentially lifts the entire greenhouse off a vehicle, rearranges its components like a sliding-tile puzzle, and then reassembles all of them seamlessly (sans roof panel) to accurately recreate one of its most famed…

This is a hot lap of the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX, with Porsche Works Driver Patrick Long at the wheel of a Porsche 918 Spyder. The camera is basically showing us everything that Long sees, making this not just one of the coolest 918 videos we've seen, but also one of the neatest laps of CoTA. As Long peers through the bends, so will you. You'll see him fight the wheel, and find out just how difficult it is to hustle this hybrid hypercar around a world-class track at speed.

Last month, I replaced a/c heater control and the rear window regulator/motor.   I changed the oil last Sunday.  Ended up putting 9 quarts of oil in after warming up the engine. I did not drive it much until the following Friday.  The engine started idling rough.  When i stop at a traffic light, the idle starts at the normal 800 rpms and then edges up to about 1400 rpms.  If I blip the accelerator, the idle returns to 800 rpms.   After about 30…

Am getting near to changing my Bridgestone RE050As.    Since we're not getting the Michelin Pilot Super Sport N-rated, I'm stuck with extended warranty acceptable N-rated tyres.   The PZ Corsa system gets good 'A' ratings for wet grip, and so I was looking for experience to confirm this. I'm not worried about the higher wear, nor colder weather grip as have a set of Sottozeros for winter.   And, if not the PZCS, then what next?
