Behind the Scenes of Porsche Classic
PorschePurist.com15 May 2012 | 1:45 pmOur friends over at Drive take an in-depth look at Porsche’s Classic department. More specifically, they give us a look at what takes place in Porsche’s own restoration department. For those of you not familiar with it, Porsche Classic is Porsche’s own in house service shop that maintains the part supplies for vehicles whose standard production was discontinued at least 10 years previously and uses those parts to restore and maintain rare and exotic Porsches. The majority of Porsches you’ll find within the shop include cars from the 356, 914, 959 and 911 series. The… -

Porsche’s Results and Pictures in the ALMS at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
15 May 2012 | 1:43 pmBad luck continue to plague Porsche’s top customer teams in the ALMS as it did in both Long Beach and Sebring. Both Flying Lizard Motorsports and Team Falken Tire lead the race at various times during the day. However, even with updated aero Packages providing better performance neither team could hold the lead. Team Falken Tire’s Porsche 911 GT3 RSR suffered from tire wear and contact from other competitors late in the race knocking them out of podium contention with a seventh place finish. Also in the top three spots was the #45 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of… -
Will These Steve McQueen/Le Mans Memorabilia Items Set New Records?
9 May 2012 | 5:10 pmIt seems like collectors can’t go wrong with anything once owned, touched or glanced at by Steve McQueen. I’m sure your remember Steve McQueen’s Porsche 911S selling for $1.375 million last year at the RM auction in Monterey. What about the driving suit that McQueen’s character Delaney wore during the film? When it sold for $984,000 Hemmings opined that McQueen might just be the “latter-day incarnation of Midas”.Profiles in History, a dealer in “guaranteed-authentic original historical autographs, letters, documents, vintage signed photographs and…

Have You Always Wanted A Janis Joplin Style 356?
15 May 2012 | 3:04 pmHave you always wanted a Janis Joplin style 356? Well now is your chance! This car recently posted for sale on E-Bay is probably one of the most bizarre 356′s you will see. The car was finished with a custom vinyl wrap inspired by Janis Joplin’s 356 SC Cabriolet. The owner claims that the graphics are not exact, but very similar to Janis’ car. I’ll take his word on that one… Not only is this car bizarre, the owner claims to have a facebook page for the car appropriately named “Seamor.” Underneath it all, the car appears to be a very nice solid car… -

Andy Lally Earns Podium Number 100 in A Magnus Porsche
13 May 2012 | 8:10 pmJust a couple of weeks ago, a wager was placed. Lally’s team members from either side of the Grand Am paddock placed bets upon which car Lally would be driving when he finally took his 100th career podium. The consequences for the poor soul to place the incorrect bet: Arriving to the grid of the proceeding event wearing the “KIA Hamster” costume. The time has come to don the hamster apparel. Lally was hired earlier this year to drive for the Magnus Racing Porsche team in the Grand Am Rolex Series GT class. Concurrently, Lally has returned to the cockpit of the KIA Forte Koup in… -

Porsche shows off 918 Spyder Prototype
15 May 2012 | 10:29 amFiled under: Convertible, Hybrid, Performance, Europe, Porsche, Luxury Porsche has officially put the finishing touches on the first prototypes of the company's 918 Spyder, complete with a black-and-white livery scheme that pays homage to the 917 racers of old. Production is set to commence in a little over a year, and the German sportscar manufacturer says buyers can look forward to taking possession of the first examples by the end of 2013. The plug-in hybrid will command a heady price tag, though. Porsche has confirmed the company will ask a whopping $845,000 per model, each with a 500… -
Porsche says no baby Boxster, no rush on Pajun
14 May 2012 | 11:30 amFiled under: Coupe, Performance, Porsche Just days after reporting that Porsche had plans to introduce the Pajun, a competitor for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class that would slot just below the Panamera, Automotive News quoted Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller saying the Pajun was not a done deal but could become reality in five or six years. Automotive News was referencing an interview Mueller gave to German newspaper Stuttgarter Zeitung, in which he also says the company has no plans for an entry-level Porsche below the Boxster until at least 2014. "We would do no good to the brand if we were to lose… -
Patrick Long has the best morning commute ever
10 May 2012 | 4:57 pmFiled under: Coupe, Performance, Marketing/Advertising, Videos, Porsche One of the benefits of being a Porsche factory driver is that you get to get coffee for Hurley Haywood. And if you're Le Mans winner Patrick Long, according to this little spot for the Porsche Sport Driving School, you get do it from behind the wheel of a 911 GT3 and on a damp, drift-ready track. But since Patrick Long apparently lives under a bridge, we'd like to know where he puts the troll and if he lets the three billy goats gruff pass whenever they want. And where he gets his coffee. Have a look below to see the… -
Porsche plans E-Class competitor, codename Pajun
10 May 2012 | 2:29 pmFiled under: Sedan, Performance, Porsche, Rumormill, Luxury German car magazine Auto Bild reports Porsche is planning build a sedan that will slot below the Panamera and compete directly with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Citing no sources (so a grain of salt is recommended), the magazine claims the four-door, codenamed Pajun, will cost no less than $84,000 and be ready for production no later than 2017. In September 2011, Car claimed the Pajun could spawn coupe, convertible and even a shooting brake variant. Back then, rumors swirled about powertrain options that included a 550-horsepower V6,… -
Porsche Macan CUV takes shape
9 May 2012 | 11:28 amFiled under: Spy Photos, Performance, Crossover, Porsche, Luxury Our spy photographers have given us our first clear glimpse at the upcoming Porsche Macan. While the test machine we see here wears some Cayenne camouflage, there's little hiding the small CUV's roof line. Based on the Audi Q5, the Macan will boast plenty of suspension tweaks by the minds at Porsche to put the crossover more in line with the sports car maker's stable. Likewise, while the Macan will borrow a host of gasoline and diesel powerplants from the Volkswagen parts bin, each one will be tuned for more horsepower than…

Drivers side exterior lights always on
16 May 2012 | 10:05 amI was drving to work yesterday and a big truck with a chrome grill pulled up behind me and I could see my drivers side rear lights were on but the switch was off. Quick Question about coolant
16 May 2012 | 9:51 amJust got my 2008 CGTS today - and I love it! Except for the fact that the coolant light came on. Question is this: can I just top off with water until I have a chance to get some? I don't have coolant at home. If I can top it off with water, how long do I have to get to the shop for a check - assuming no leak? Thanks for the info and sorry if it's a silly question -
convertible top adjustment
16 May 2012 | 9:36 amMy convertible top stopped working on my 2004 Boxster S. After researching the possible causes I discovered that the driver-side pushrod attached to the V-lever was bent and the plastic tip broken. The passenger side pushrod appeared intact. I replaced both sides with new pushrods and tips and made sure that the length of both were exact and the same as the pushrod on the passengers side. All seemed well and the mechanism attempted to raise and lower the top but the leading edge of the top would catch on the back of the driver-side rollbar during… -

Cayenne Turbo 2004 Oil in the coolant
16 May 2012 | 3:10 amHas anyone else had this problem which seems unfixable? we first noticed oil in the coolant when the coolant warning light came on. The car went into a reputable Prosche specialist who replaced the head gaskets and heat exchanger. The heads were pressure tested and were fine. The car seemed fine for about 3 months (5000km) and then the coolant warning light came on again - Same situation - Oil in the coolant. The car went back to the same specialist, they pressure tested the heads, heat exchanger and turbos and could find no fault. They then wanted to simply replace the turbos as a bit of…
