The annual aftermarket show in Germany always brings out an enticing crop of European tuner cars, and 9ff isn't about to let it go by without making its mark. The Porsche tuner is hitting Essen with the Speed9, a slick speedster inspired by the legendary 356 (circa 1955) and based on the latest 997 Turbo cabrio. Filed under: Auctions, Porsche Porsche family watch collection - Click above for image gallery Times are tough for the Porsche family. Amidst the merger with Volkswagen, their company just suffered a $6.6 billion loss. But we didn't think things were this bad for the descendants of Ferdinand Porsche until Bonhams announced they would be liquidating that family's watch collection to the highest bidder. Okay, we're exaggerating just a bit. The Porsche family stands to make a lot of money out of the Volkswagen merger, and the collection is being auctioned off for charity. And while we have no…

The newest one announced is the 911 GT3 R, which, as the name implies, is targeted at GT3 class racing worldwide. The GT3 R is the followup to the GT3 Cup S model and just as with its road cars, Porsche has aimed to make the new racer both faster and easier to drive. The GT3 R is derived from the most recent Cup car that…

Like this image, for example, of a Porsche Cayman buried in the sand. But we guess this was bound to happen to a car that shares its name with a Caribbean archipelago (it was actually named after a small species of crocodile). The shot was taken by Asylum blogger Elizabeth Brady on Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, where the effects of "Nor'Ida" - a particularly strong Nor'Easter conspiring with the remnants…

  • Boxster Spyder Revealed

    corsa
    7 Nov 2009 | 8:53 pm
Porsche has revealed the new Boxster Spyder, the lightest Porsche you can buy. The Boxster Spyder will be a third standalone model, next to the Boxster and Boxster S. It sheds 176 lbs by removing the top mechanism, using aluminum door skins and lightweight interior door panels from the 911 GT3 RS, brining it down to 2,811 lbs. Mechanically it ain’t no slouch either, getting an extra 10 hp over the Boxster S (up to 320 hp) as well as an all-new sport suspension that lowers the car 20 mm, a standard limited slip differential, and exclusive wheels. When equipped with the PDK and Sports…
  • The Singer 911: I’m In Love!

    corsa
    7 Nov 2009 | 8:23 pm
It’s rare that a non-factory Porsche catches my heart, unless it wears the familiar “Ruf” badge. But here is one car that has stopped me in my tracks. It is called the Singer 911, and from the outside it looks like a 1970s-era 911. But if that’s what you are thinking, you are so wrong. Singer Vehicle Design debuted this prototype at Pebble Beach earlier this year, and what a machine. Starting with a 1980s-era 911 donor, Singer strips the car down to its bare shell to reinvent it into a “celebration of the golden air-cooled era of the world’s most important…
  • Autoblog Drives the Cayenne Diesel

    corsa
    7 Nov 2009 | 7:35 pm
A couple months ago Porsche brought over some diesel Cayennes from Europe to let some U.S. journalists drive them, and Autoblog was one of the lucky ones. They only had the oil-burning pepper for less than an hour, but that was enough time for them to conclude that the U.S. market needs this version of the Cayenne. The diesel Cayenne shares a 3.0 liter turbo V6 with the Volkswagen Toureg TDI and the Audi Q7 TDI. This engine puts out 240 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. That’s good enough to get from 0 to 62 in a respectable 8.3 seconds and to a top speed of 133 mph. But even more impressive…
  • Panamera Isn’t a Gas Guzzler

    corsa
    7 Nov 2009 | 7:18 pm
It’s official: the Panamera is avoids the gas guzzler tax by getting an EPA rating of 16 mpg city and 24 mpg highway in the Panamera S and 4S models, and a 15/23 mpg rating for the Panamera Turbo. The mileage ratings are pretty surprising considering the size and power of the Panamera. (It’s closest rival ,the Maserati Quattroporte GT S only gets 12/18 mpg, and it has 66 hp less than the Panamera Turbo.) Reasons that the Panamera mileage is so impressive include the DFI, PDK transmission, and start/stop technology. [source: Autoblog]

It’s that time of year again, at least for those of us who don’t drive our Porsches year round. It’s time to start thinking about putting your Porsche away for a long winter nap. 17 Nov 2009 | 4:31 pm
I don’t know what it is about Porsche and artists, but the iconic 911 seems to spark some strange ideas. Take this chocolate covered Porsche that would even have Willy Wonka asking, “why?” That’s right, a chocolate covered Porsche (at least they covered it in plastic first). According to a story on Autoblog.nl, a Porsche dealer in the Netherlands (Porsche Centrum Gelderland) hired chocolatier Jan Blancken and his crew to drown an already delicious 997 Carrera S in almost 400 lbs (175 kilos) of chocolate. The car now sits in the Porsche dealer’s showroom amongst…

    993C4S
    17 Nov 2009 | 9:00 am
If you’re anything like me, one of the many things that attracted you to your Porsche was that distinctive exhaust note. The defining burble and pop as the engine engages for the first time. The low raspy rumble of the flat six at idle and the sweet scream of an approaching red line. While the voices have changed over the model years, the melody remains the same. Now Porsche wants to put your expertise, and your ears, to the test. The Porsche 911 Evolution Competition pits man against machine in a game of match the engine to the exhaust. Here’s how it works. Broken into five…
  • Ok, You Got Pulled Over for Speeding. What Now?

    993C4S
    16 Nov 2009 | 3:25 pm
Let’s face it, if you own a Porsche the chances are better than average that at some point you will get pulled over for speeding. I know, I know, you were only on the go pedal for a minute, you just wanted to feel that pulse quickening acceleration or hear that sonorous sound of your exhaust. Maybe you were unfairly profiled for driving a Porsche. Whatever the reason, most of us are bound to get pulled over at some point. If you don’t know how to avoid a speeding ticket, in the first place, then how you act and what you do after being stopped will play a bigger role in the outcome…

  • Jinster's new GPS and cupholder solutions installation

    22 Nov 2009 | 4:36 am
I got sick of not having cupholders in my Boxster. So I set out to find some. The options seemed to be OEM cupholders, either the clip on type, or the single DIN type. And we all know the problems with those - not secure enough fit, not accommodating large cups, etc. Also, the DIN type takes up an entire vertical DIN slot, making fitting double DIN GPS impossible. Other solutions seem to be to use a cutout for cups in the centre console box - which means the lid needs to stay open; and "ultimate cupholder" - which doesn't look OEM at all.So I was searching for generic cupholders on Ebay, and…
  • Poor idle

    21 Nov 2009 | 9:14 pm
On my 996 C2 I recently removed the throttle body so that I could give it and the idle control valve a proper cleaning. Job went perfectly, reinstalled the ICV complete with a new gasket and bolted the shiny clean assembly back onto the intake. Engine fired right up and all was normal. The next day I find that it starts up but immediately drops to below the normal idle and dies. Slightly better with the a/c off but very low idle and the red oil pressure light is winking on and off the idle is so low. Basically won't idle. No durametric fault codes and runs great at any rpm over ilde but sure…

This is the only wheel in the world like this but I guess I will try to mod one as well. Just to be very clear: If you open the wheel and damage something, you risk to lose the warranty.
