If you're one of the 44,636 people who took delivery of a Macan in 2014, or one of the 50,000 Porsche expects to do so in 2015, then you already know it's worthy of the Porsche badge. But, do you know how it's made? Sure, Porsche showed us their owned gussied up video a couple of years ago featuring the production line in motion, but it was edited to an inch of its life for production values and brand positioning. The video below has none of that. In fact, some might say it's boring with its lack of voice-over and hi-speed driving. We think, if you're a Macan owner or fan, it's mesmerizing.

According to the fine men and women over at Autocar, Porsche is working on a brand new executive car that will be aimed squarely at BMW's 5-series in size, and Tesla's Model S in terms of technology and likely pricing. The new sedan is rumored to be developed with two power-train systems at launch (both driven through the rear wheels), including a true plug-in electric version, and a hydrogen fuel cell electric version. Both are expected to launch in late 2017 or early 2018. This information was gleaned through a series of patent applications filed in various markets. This is a radical…

  • Porsche Issues Recall For All 918 Spyder models!

    Bradley Brownell
    22 May 2015 | 6:33 pm
Porsche's mega hyper super hybrid is being recalled globally for a service inspection. According to the recall release, Porsche will be asking each of the people who own 918 Spyders to bring their car in for precautionary checks of a potential issue. There are 223 cars in the United States market, and Porsche will need to see each and every one of them. So, what's the problem? Porsche has said that the 918s will be recalled due to a radiator fan wiring harness that could show some wear, thanks to a carbon fiber bit which is believed to be abrading the sheathing of the harness. When a 918…

We all know that Porsche isn't one to rest on their laurels, and with the Cayman GT4 having just launched a few weeks ago, there are already rumblings of a new 'GT' model. Apparently Porsche has applied for the trademark of the name "GT5" in Germany, and are unlikely to have that application turned down. The question on everyone's lips; What could the GT division possibly be cooking up? Something cheeky, I'm sure. There's been a GT1, there's been a GT2, we currently have the fifth GT3 iteration, and as of this year, there is a GT4. All of the bases are pretty well covered by the GT division,…

  • New o2 Sensor issues P1115 - P1119

    22 May 2015 | 1:11 pm
Hi Guys,   I bought a 1999 996 C2 and it now has 135K miles. I lived in a state where I didnt need to smog it for a decade. Now that I live in California, I went to smog the car and had failed due to lean fuel mix issue at slow RPMs on the NOX test. Since the car hasn't had a lot of repairs on it in the last few years, I figured it was time to replace some basic stuff. I ordered a bunch of new O2 sensors off Fleabay and installed them. Boom I now get almost instant P1115 and P1119 codes.   I read Lorans advice on checking the ohms... Here is what my old units read and here is what…
  • 2004 Carrera 4S Cab Tiptronic (what one's will fit?)

    22 May 2015 | 6:53 am
Can anyone tell me exactly which Tiptronic Transmissions will work in a 2004 C4S? I have a problem in the output shaft assy sometimes referred to as the transfer case. (I understand there really isn't a transfer case per se in a C4S) Quite a noticeable whine from the right rear. No codes thrown. Indy first diagnosed by stethoscope as rear diff, but upon further listening fairly certain it's in the transfer case area. Says AWD not working as it should. Basically Porsche has told him they won't sell the output shaft/transfer case parts - not to try to fix rather replace the Tiptronic.

I had one of these installed in my previous to last oil change (4,700 miles, 24 months) and when the plug was removed, it looked like it does in the following pictures.  Obviously it is doing its job and no metal was found on the oil filter (OEM original filter).  Question is: is this amount of ferrous material deposited on the magnet normal or is it an indication of something not being right?   My apologies for the quality, only had cell phone at hand on a relatively dark garage....     Attached Thumbnails
